Year 10 students sample the world of work
Year 10 students took part in a fantastic work experience programme this month giving them a valuable insight into the world of work. Despite all the challenges of trying to secure work opportunities during a pandemic, 189 students (73% of the year group) were able to secure a physical placement with the remainder taking part in virtual work experience from home.
Our students did not limit themselves to Milton Keynes with some travelling to London, Cornwall, Wales and Cheshire. The high-profile companies our students worked for included Network Rail, Niftylift, Red Bull and SAAB. Students also worked for charities including the Cornwall Seal Sanctuary, Age UK and Ride High. The range of placements they were able to secure was so impressive and included schools, hospitals, sports centres, IT companies, opticians, shops, restaurants and hair and beauty salons.
Andrea Frame, Head of School said: ‘We are very grateful to all the organisations that offered our students an opportunity to experience a work environment for the week, and then took the time to feedback to us about how they got on. I am very proud of our students as the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive with many saying they would employ them now if they could! I am also extremely grateful to our in-school Careers Team who worked tirelessly to ensure that the work experience programme could go ahead this year despite all the challenges of the pandemic. Without them none of this would have been possible.’
