Debate Team takes on MK Schools Parliamentary Competition

Rachel Poku, Harshita Gudupati and Darcy Williams from Year 11 have represented Denbigh in the MK Schools Parliamentary Debate Competition, organised by Iain Stewart MP and Ben Everitt MP.  The Competition introduces MK secondary school students to parliamentary style debating and challenges them to act the part of successful Front Bench Parliamentarians.

Our team has taken on Shenley Brook End School, Oakgrove School and St Paul’s Catholic School, debating the legalisation of capital punishment, the scrapping of Trident and the extension of the HS2 rail link to Manchester.

Each debate was scored by a panel of judges, and we are currently waiting to see if our talented debaters have done enough to qualify for the MK Finals.  All competitors will receive a letter from Mr Stewart or Mr Everitt with an invitation to visit the Houses of Parliament.

Dr Frame, Headteacher said: ‘We are very proud of our debate team who have shown that they can confidently articulate both sides of a debate on some of the big issues of our time.  Thank you also to Mr Lee and Mr Vassell who have supported the students throughout this competition.’
