Inspirational Sixth Form Assembly Focuses on Mental Health Strategies

Mandy Legg, a mental health impact speaker, author and community leader came into school to lead a powerful and inspiring assembly with our Year 12 students. Our students found the messages from Mandy about holding onto yourself when life does not work out as you wish, incredibly reassuring. Mandy spoke powerfully from her own personal experience, and this allowed our students to really connect with the advice she offered. These are just some of the comments from students following the Assembly:
‘I enjoyed Mandy’s speech because she talked a lot about connecting with yourself and holding onto yourself. I feel like this is really important, but it is not talked about enough. It was also very different to what I expected, and it showed how strong and brave she had to be when it was needed. It was very inspiring.’
‘As a sixth-form student facing exams, it’s reassuring to hear that failure doesn’t mean that’s it for us, something better will always come. And that’s the main message I got from her, to still be kind to yourself, even if you do need to rest and rebuild yourself to accomplish it.’
‘What truly made her speech impactful was the way you could feel her tone, that her message still held deep meaning for her. She wasn’t just a speaker; she felt human, and that genuine connection made her story resonate with me and everyone around.’
‘After speaking with others around school, particularly girls, it was clear that everyone shared that connection to her and her story.’
