Year 10 students join the world of work
Our Year 10 students entered the world of work for a week taking on a range of interesting and challenging placements during work experience week. 81% of the year group found and completed placements with organisations including Santander, Network Rail, Niftylift, Willen Hospice, Thrift Farm, KPMG, Luton Airport, Jardines Land Rover as well as hairdressers, cafes, pharmacies, schools and pre-schools. We were delighted to receive excellent feedback from employers about how our students conducted themselves.
Mrs Brown, the Assistant Headteacher who leads our Careers Provision said: ‘It was wonderful to see so many students engaging in the work experience programme this year. The process of finding and completing a work placement mirrors the process of finding employment after education, so this is a very valuable experience for them. Our dedicated in-school careers team support all our students in trying to find their own placement, but we know that not all of them are successful. We offer these students a virtual work experience package to complete at home and invite them into school for a ‘Get Ready for Work’ session covering job market information, CVs, applications and interviews. This session is led by Ms Agbame, our Careers Advisor and Matrix, a HR and Recruitment company. Each student is also invited to take part in a workplace visit to a local employer, giving them hands-on experience of a workplace’.
