Sixth Form Community comes together to celebrate Diwali
The first ever Denbigh Sixth Form Diwali Party was a huge success bringing Sixth Form students, their families and staff together to celebrate the traditional ‘Festival of Lights’. We were delighted to be joined at the Party by two special guests, the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Kurshida Mirza and Local Councillors Mandy and Mick Legg. The Party was organised superbly by the students themselves through the Sixth Form Diwali Committee.
The Party opened with a beautiful Bharatnatyam performance by Sixth Formers, Dhinusha and Nidhi who are trained in this traditional dance which originates from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. We then learnt more about Diwali and the Sikh Festival of Bandi Chhor, both which are celebrated on the same day.
The highlight of the evening was the lamp lighting ceremony during which we lit the traditional oil lamp known as a Samay. Our guests joined in, lighting tealights to make a truly stunning effect. The evening concluded with two more singing and dance performances, and we opened up the dance floor to all our guests to join in! It was truly an unforgettable evening, and we hope to make this an annual celebration at Denbigh.
Thank you to the Sixth Form Diwali Student Committee who organised the evening, led by Gauree and Jayashree. Thank you to Aabha, Athri, Cairaa, Eshika, Meenal, Nidhi, Serena, Sanvi, Tanay and Vikram.
Thank you also to all the staff, volunteers and the Denbigh Association for supporting this wonderful community celebration.
