Faculty Introduction

The Computing and Business faculty comprises Business, Computer Science, Economics, and CTEC Technicals in Business.

In Business, students will follow Edexcel A-Level Business and explore how businesses create wealth, prosperity and jobs whilst also considering business behaviour from a variety of perspectives. In Computer Science, students will follow AQA A-Level Computer Science and will develop a technical understanding of computers including problem solving, data representation, hardware and software.

In Economics, students will follow OCR A-Level Economics and explore the economic choices individuals, governments and businesses make and the consequences of these on consumers, business sectors, countries, and global markets.

The CTEC Technical is a two year course that provides the opportunity for students to explore the world of business in a highly practical way.  By adopting an investigative approach, students develop a range of skills while discovering the problems and opportunities faced by businesses.  Students will study the Diploma across Year 12 and Year 13 (broadly equivalent to two A levels). The Diploma (Marketing Pathway) course is 50% coursework/50% exam and is graded using the Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* system.

Enrichment

Members of the Faculty contribute to running after school clubs to help develop Information Technologies skills and confidence as well as helping students to complete projects and coursework. There are also many competitions for the students to participate in to keep the subjects relevant. We enjoy having speakers to share their experiences and take our students to see real-life businesses in the real world.
