Faculty Information

The PE Faculty offers subjects including Physical Education and Sport alongside our Football Academy Programme.

Students who choose to study Physical Education will follow OCR A-Level Physical Education. Within Physical Education, students will explore the physiological factors that affect performance, the psychological and socio-cultural themes within PE, and the contemporary issues in physical activity. There is also a significant practical element to this course that requires students to be physical competent in at least one activity. In BTEC Sport, students follow the Edexcel Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport which explores the theoretical principles of anatomy and physiology in sport, sport psychology, and professional development in the sports industry.

Football Academy

Join the Denbigh Football Academy, the most established Post-16 provider of Football Education within Milton Keynes and running since 1999. Study at the exceptional Denbigh Sixth Form where you can develop your passion for football and study for a Level 3 academic qualification. In the Academy, you will develop your footballing skills and learn how to coach young people on courses that are run by a UEFA qualified coach and dedicated PE specialists. The Academy works in partnership with the Milton Keynes Dons Sport & Education Trust (SET) which allows Academy students the opportunity to train and compete in a high-performance environment at the MK Dons and allow boys from the MK Dons Talent Pathway access to Denbigh’s first-class education offer.

We welcome both male and female Sixth Form students onto our challenging and flexible course. Our Academy has created an environment that inspires graduates to pursue a future in higher education and professional sport, through competing, coaching, physiotherapy or other sport related industries.

Enrichment and Sports Performance

Our extra-curricular sports programme complements the A-Level PE curriculum on offer. The PE Faculty organises and coaches a host of Post-16 sports teams that are consistently successful in local competitions. Some of our Post-16 sports teams also compete in district and county competitions.

Denbigh has developed a sports performance programme to provide talented students with support in combing their sporting talent and academic studies. This has included talks from professionals within the industry, giving advice on how to balance academic study with training demands.

Schemes of Learning

Each faculty has developed a two-year Scheme of Learning for each subject. The Schemes of Learning outline the curriculum journey that students will embark on during each academic year.
