Celebration of Sport at Awards Ceremony
Achievement and participation in sport at Denbigh were celebrated at our recent Sports Awards Ceremony. 125 awards were given out including the prestigious Full and Half Colours Awards for students who have demonstrated the highest levels of skill and commitment when representing the school. ‘Players’ Player of the Year’ Awards, PE Curriculum Awards and Football Academy awards were also given out on a night of sporting celebration.
Two special guests joined us at the Ceremony to present the awards and take part in Q&A sessions with the audience about their life in sport and achievements. We were joined by Nauman Javaid, a former professional cricketer and ECB Coach who coaches the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Boys U15 Squad and Luton Town and Indians Women and Girls Cricket Team. Nauman is a former First-Class Cricketer who has represented the Pakistan Emerging 11 Squad. We were also joined by Naana Oppon, a Year 12 student here at Denbigh and an extremely talented gymnast. Naana was part of the team who secured Gold for Team GB in Tumbling at the European Gymnastics Championships. Naana has recently been selected onto British Gymnastics’ Performance Pathway and will be part of the 2024 Senior Tumbling Programme.
Mr Linbourne, Head of our PE Faculty said ‘It was a fantastic evening where we were able to celebrate sporting achievement and participation in our school. The Ceremony came just after our annual Sports Week, so it’s been a very busy and exciting end of term for our students and my colleagues in the PE Faculty who support them so brilliantly’.
