Faculty Introduction

The Design Technology Faculty is a combination of many disciplines including Product Design, Fashion and Textiles.

The faculty aims to stimulate the curiosity, promote problem-solving and critical thinking of the next generation of design and technologists. Technology is constantly evolving, and we want to ensure that every student develops skills for designing a modern society and prepare them to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies.

Denbigh School’s technology facilities include – a specialist workshops for Product Design and a Textiles studio. These are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery including: 2 x 3D printers, a large laser cutter, a plasma cutter, CAD/CAM routers, CNC embroidery machines and a dedicated CNC machinery bay.

In Product Design, students will follow OCR A-Level Product Design and will develop an understanding of the wider social, moral, and environmental issues that impact on the design and manufacturing industries. Students will also undertake a substantial design project which will require them to apply higher order thinking skills to solve problems, evaluate solutions and provide suitable design solutions. In Fashion and Textiles, students will follow AQA A-Level Fashion and Textiles that enables students to investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental, and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing prototype of their choice.

Schemes of Learning

Each faculty has developed a two-year Scheme of Learning for each subject. The Schemes of Learning outline the curriculum journey that students will embark on during each academic year.
