Sixth Formers impress at MK Youth SACRE Event

Our A‑Level Philosophy students impressed the MK Youth SACRE Leadership (Youth Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) at a recent event held at the MK City Council Chamber on the theme of ‘Youth Voices on Religion, Politics and Society’.   At the Event, Mbali Jama and Rehan Hussain from Year 13 led a discussion on the relationship between faith and public life, promoting thoughtful dialogue between primary and secondary students from across Milton Keynes.  They were supported by Sawan Nair, Eliott Wilson and Kalina Kaminska from Year 12, who helped the younger students there to voice their opinion.  Their contributions impressed the MK Youth SACRE Leadership so much that they have been asked to organise a Youth SACRE Event in May.

The Event was very interesting for our students.  They heard an engaging speech from Emily Darlington MP, who spoke about the importance of diversity in fostering creativity and innovation, as well as the shared role that community plays in both politics and religion.  They then took the opportunity to speak to Ms Darlington MP and MK City Councillors on a range of topics, including the lowering of the voting age to 16.

Thank you to our Diversity Co-ordinator, Mrs Conway who accompanied the students.  Mrs Conway oversees Diversity and Inclusion matters at Denbigh, including LGBTQ+, Religious Tolerance and Anti-Racism.  Mrs Conway aims to empower students to explore, showcase and learn from the varied cultures present at Denbigh.
