Headteacher’s Bulletin

Anthony Steed, Headteacher

Every week I send out via parentmail a Headteacher’s Bulletin to all students, parents, staff and governors with the latest news, important notices, and exciting opportunities around the Milton Keynes area. The current bulletin is set out for you below along with previous bulletins from this term.

8th May Headteacher’s Bulletin

Year 13 and 11 Leavers

This week we marked two special milestones with our leavers’ assemblies. On Tuesday, Year 13 began their celebrations in style with pastries while showing off their elaborate outfits. This was then followed by a joyful assembly featuring fantastic performances and a brilliant leavers’ video, directed by one of our students and starring many familiar staff faces. The assembly focused on sharing memories and good times students have had. On Wednesday, it was Year 11s turn, who started the day receiving messages of good luck from parents during tutorial, before the traditional shirt signing and a jam‑packed assembly that included awards, performances from ‘the Band’ and a pop quiz to see who has learnt the most. With GCSE and A Level exams now underway, we wish all our students the very best of luck. We encourage students to make the most of study sessions, use the resources provided by teachers, and most importantly, believe in themselves.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

We are inviting parents and carers to support our upcoming production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by making a donation via ParentMail (Shop). A huge amount of work has already gone into preparing this licensed Broadway musical, which will involve students from across the whole school both on and off the stage, and marks our first large‑scale musical in seven years. Any donation, big or small, will make a real difference and help bring this ambitious and exciting project to life. Your support will enable our students to enjoy a truly transformative creative experience and help us take them into a world of pure imagination.

The Parks Trust

Students with an interest in nature, the environment or outdoor careers are invited to explore two upcoming opportunities with The Parks Trust. A Careers Showcase will take place at the Education Centre in Howe Park Wood on Thursday 28 May (1.30–3pm), offering students aged 13–18 the chance to meet operational staff, see machinery demonstrations and learn about caring for local landscapes. There is also a careers-focused walk and talk in Campbell Park on Monday 8 June for those interested in forestry, arboriculture or landscaping, giving insight into a day in the life of a Landscape Officer. Please see more information here.

Milton Keynes Museum

This weekend the Milton Keynes Museum is opening its doors for the History Festival on the 9th & 10th May. This looks to be a fantastic weekend of hands-on history and family-friendly fun. You can enjoy live re‑enactments, interactive activities, crafts and displays that bring the past to life. Please see more information here.

Word of the week

The word of the week this week is tenacious, meaning holding tightly onto something, or keeping an opinion in a determined way. For example, there has been tenacious local opposition to the new airport.

Games Night

A reminder that on Friday 15th May the Denbigh Association and the House Councils are hosting a Games Night in aid of our House Charity, Solving Kids Cancer. Please see the attached poster. This is a chance for students to spend an evening getting competitive with their friends, trying different challenges, raising money or charity as well as earning House Points. Tickets are £2 and must be purchased via Parental.  Please see the attached poster.

Fostering

Milton Keynes Council is encouraging adults over 21 to consider fostering, offering full training, 24/7 professional support and a regular tax‑free income while helping local children get the best possible start. Please see the poster with more information.

Summer Research Program

A reminder that Emily Darlington MP is running a four-week summer programme exploring how politics, research and public service works in practice. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about Westminster, local government and the key issues shaping Milton Keynes. Please see the attached flyer with more details.

Young Poets of the Year Award

Students with a passion for writing are encouraged to enter the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award. This is one of the UK’s most prestigious poetry competitions for young people aged 11–17. The competition is free to enter and offers fantastic opportunities for publication, mentoring and recognition for talented young writers. We have many talented writers here at Denbigh so it would be great to have some entries. More information can be found here.
