Awards ceremony recognises academic success & student leadership

Over 200 students, staff, governors and parents came together for our annual Celebration of Success Awards Evening to celebrate outstanding academic success, Citizenship, student leadership and achievement in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, within our school community.

Our special guests on the night, Dr Gayatri Vijapurkar, Bruce Hawthorne and Tony Loftman presented the awards and Gayatri, a former student talked about her journey since she left Denbigh.  It was a truly inspiring speech from Gayatri who is a doctor at MK University Hospital after completing her medical studies at Cambridge University.

We were delighted to be joined by Bruce Hawthorne and Tony Loftman who presented our prestigious school community awards – the Lucy Hawthorne Award and the Loftman Award.  Bruce is Lucy’s father, and this award is given every year in her memory to a student whose attitude and commitment embodies what is meant by Citizenship.  The winner of this year’s Lucy Hawthorne Award was Year 13 student, Carrera Rishica Jain.

The Loftman Award is awarded to a student who has participated in and benefitted from the huge range of extra-curricular activities the school offers.   Tony Loftman’s family donated the Award in recognition of the extra-curricular activities their five children benefited from while they were at Denbigh.  This year’s Loftman Award winner is Rich Mandal, who leaves us to go to study Music at Cambridge University.

The Andy Squires Science Award was also awarded to the outstanding young scientist, Ryan Sohal.    The Award is in memory of the CEO of the Denbigh Alliance Trust and former Headteacher of Denbigh, Andy Squires and is given to a student who has demonstrated enthusiasm and excellence in Science.

We are very grateful to everyone who contributed to making this a celebration to remember.
