Newly appointed Holocaust Ambassadors Visit Auschwitz
Following their recent appointment as Denbigh’s 2026 Holocaust Ambassadors our Ambassadors travelled to Poland, accompanied by Miss Nikopoulos from the Humanities Faculty to visit Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, just outside Kraków.

The students began their day at Auschwitz I, now a memorial and museum, where they walked through the preserved barracks and exhibitions. They read powerful testimonies from victims and learned about the lives of those who were imprisoned there. The visit provided a sobering opportunity to reflect on the scale of the Holocaust and the individual stories behind the history.

They then travelled to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the largest part of the camp complex. Standing on the railway tracks and walking through the vast grounds helped students to understand the enormity of what took place there. Together, they discussed the stories of victims and survivors and held a candlelit vigil to remember the men, women and children who lost their lives.

As the students walked out through the gates, they did so with a shared commitment: to remember, to educate others, and to stand against prejudice and discrimination in all its forms. The visit was a deeply moving and important experience that will stay with them for years to come. One of our Ambassadors, Elliot Wilson wrote a poem about their experience.

Our Holocaust Ambassadors are appointed each year to learn and then spread the message of the Holocaust to the wider student body. The Ambassadors after their appointment receive a training course by the Holocaust Education Trust in London to prepare themselves for their important roles.

Our 2026 Holocaust Ambassadors are (in alphabetical order):
Lucas Amps, Eva Brito Cookham, Sophie Jepson, Solomon Lewis, Lilian Sherriff, Eliott Wilson
