Sixth Former, Lucas wins Lucy Hawthorne Citizenship Award

Sixth Former, Lucas is the 2026 winner of our prestigious school community prize, The Lucy Hawthorne Citizenship Award.  Lucas was presented with the award at our recent Celebration of Success Ceremony by our special guest, Bruce Hawthorne, who is Lucy’s father.

Lucy Hawthorne, who the award is given in memory of, attended Denbigh from 2003 through to 2007, when she sadly passed away.  During that time, Lucy made a real impact on the school with her infectious smile and her boundless energy and enthusiasm for anything related to the wider life of the School, especially Citizenship.   Lucy’s Award is given annually to a student who best epitomises the spirit of Citizenship and community in our school and this year’s recipient, Lucas is a hugely worthy winner.

Lucas is a student who has embraced every opportunity to contribute to the life of Denbigh School. As a House President, he has given his time generously, supporting both Parents’ Evenings and Year 7 Induction Day, helping younger students and their families feel welcome and valued within our school community.

His commitment to service extends further through his role as a Holocaust Ambassador, as well as representing the school with distinction at our Sixth Form Open Evening and supporting Year 12 Induction Day. Lucas is also currently undertaking his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and is preparing for an expedition to Borneo in 2027, demonstrating his spirit of challenge and adventure. Alongside these outstanding contributions to our school community, Lucas continues to excel academically, achieving an outstanding average of 9.0 across his best eight GCSEs, an A grade in AS Further Mathematics, and impressive Year 12 examination results.

Lucas exemplifies the values of citizenship through his leadership, service and commitment to others and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
