Personal Development

Faculty Introduction

Students in Years 7 and 8 study Personal Development. During these two years, they learn key skills that they will need throughout their school life and beyond. Students are working on five key areas: Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication, these will be known as LORIC to the students.  Students will spend time exploring kindness and respect, two characteristics we expect students at Denbigh to show. Students will also spend time looking into what makes a healthy lifestyle and learn skills to implement in their daily lives.  These will be known as LORIC to the students.

During Personal Development, students will be assessed using Pixl Edge. There are four levels the students can work towards: Apprentice, Pioneer, Graduate, and Masters.  For apprentice-level, students need to complete ten tasks, two from each LORIC area. For Pioneer, Graduate and the Master Level, students need to complete one task from each LORIC strand, but the tasks increase in difficulty. Students will also record and track their achievements. Students can pick their own tasks to complete in each of the strands mentioned above, making their completion of the levels individualised. The tasks can be completed inside and outside of lessons. You can look through the database with your son or daughter to see the activities and encourage your child to complete extra activities to ensure that they have the edge!

After each level has been completed, students are invited to recieve their award in front of parents/guardians at the annual ‘Celebration of Success Evening’.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT is a great way for students to develop key skills that they will use throughout their time at Denbigh and beyond.
