Ceremony celebrates strongest exam results in School’s history

Students, staff, governors and parents came together for our annual Celebration of Success Ceremony to recognise the exceptional attainment, progress, engagement and contribution of students from Year 7 to Year 13, including those who achieved the strongest GCSE and A Level results in the School’s history this summer.

Our special guest on the night, was Alexis Newa, an alumni student who is currently studying at Cambridge University.  Alexis presented the awards to our students and in an inspiring speech talked about her journey since she left Denbigh.

We were also delighted to be joined by former parent and governor Bruce Hawthorne who presented our prestigious school community award – the Lucy Hawthorne Award.  Bruce is Lucy’s father, and this award is given every year in her memory to a student whose attitude and commitment embodies what is meant by Citizenship.  

The Ceremony celebrated those students from Year 7 to Year 13 who have demonstrated exceptional engagement in their studies, excelled in extracurricular activities, and made a positive contribution to school life.  Our Head of Year Awards honoured students selected by their Heads of Year for their commitment and contribution throughout the year.  Our GCSE and A Level Progress Awards celebrated Year 11 and Year 13 students who achieved the strongest GCSE and A Level results in the School’s history this summer.

Five prestigious individual awards were also presented on the evening:

The Headteacher’s Award was presented to Eléa a former Year 13 student who made an exceptional contribution to helping Denbigh realise its vision of ‘Aspire, Innovate, Achieve and Belong.’

The Lucy Hawthorne Citizenship Award was presented to Lucas from Year 13 whose enthusiasm and commitment embodies what is meant by Citizenship and how much it benefits the school.

The Loftman Award was presented to Chimdalu from Year 13 who has participated in and benefited from a huge range of extra-curricular activities and made a wonderful contribution to our school community.

The Andy Squires Science Award, presented in memory of our former Headteacher and inspirational Science teacher, was awarded to Tomiwa, a former Year 13 student who demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and excellence in Science.

The Care and Opportunity Award was presented to Ava, a former Year 13 student whose remarkable progress reflects a strong commitment to growth and opportunity.

We also celebrated students whose dedication and perseverance have enabled them to achieve their Gold and Silver Awards in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

Mr Stewart, Deputy Headteacher said: ‘This was a wonderful celebration of life at Denbigh shared with an audience of family, friends, staff and governors.  All our award winners on the night embody our vision of ‘Aspire, Innovate, Achieve and Belong’.  This special evening also gave us the opportunity to thank our students’ families and teachers, all of whom play an invaluable part in their success.  We are proud of all of our winners and thank them for the contribution they have made to the continued success of Denbigh School.’
