Year 7 bring Matilda to life with Shoebox Designs

The Spring term saw Year 7 students challenged to think like set designers, working in teams to transform ideas into practical spaces using ‘Matilda the Musical’ as the theme.  Our Creative Arts Faculty Team then judged over 50 fantastic designs submitted, assessing not only the final build quality, but also the ingenuity, problem-solving, teamwork, and the team’s  ability to overcome obstacles throughout the design process.

As part of their learning, students explored the educational importance of set design, understanding how stage environments communicate meaning, support performance, and solve theatrical challenges.   Students were encouraged to make imaginative ideas work within real limitations, just as professional theatre designers do!
