Outstanding young scientist wins Andy Squires Science Award

Tomiwa, an outstanding young scientist, who has just completed Year 13, is the 2026 winner of the ‘Andy Squires Science Award’.  The Award is given in memory of the former Alliance Schools Trust CEO and Headteacher of Denbigh, Andy Squires who was passionate about the teaching of Science and inspired so many students over the years.  The Award is given in his name to a student who has demonstrated enthusiasm and excellence in Science. Tomiwa, a hugely worthy winner of this Award, received the trophy at the recent Celebration of Success Ceremony from our special guest and alumni student, Alexis Newa.

Tomiwa studied Biology and Chemistry at A Level, achieving an A* in both.  These outstanding results reflected Tomiwa’sexceptional work ethic and a genuine desire to achieve. Tomiwa was always highly motivated, determined and willing to put in the extra effort to succeed. His enthusiasm and positive attitude were inspirational and his ability to spur on those around him, encouraging his peers to aim high and persevere when faced with challenges made teaching him a true privilege.  He was incredibly supportive of other students, always willing to share his knowledge, offer encouragement and help others to succeed. He is an outstanding young person who has been a pleasure to teach and is thoroughly deserving of this prestigious award as it recognises his hard work, character and contribution to the classroom.
